Charter  Vs  Join A Group

When dreaming up your adventure there’ll be a few questions you have and a couple of decisions to be made. And as always there is a little organising to do on the way to paradise. So we hope the following will help you along the way.

Should you have any other questions or simply want to chat rather than read about what is possible just give us a call anytime.

Good to see your curiosity brought you this far..

Be it a charter or a Join-a-group everything is catered for. We take along a maximum of 12 good people at a time, who can move into 4 cabins and 3 bathrooms whilst M.V. Flightless is home.
All meals and hot drinks are supplied and we're happy to cater to any dietary requirements. We supply a variety of fishing rods and tackle, wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, gloves, booties, weight belts, cylinders, BCDs, kayaks, paddle boards, insect repellant, bedding, beanbags, floats and floatlines, sodastream machine, a commercial ice maker and we even share our sunscreen...  So the only things to bring are some clothes (we do have a washing machine and dryer on board), any treats or alcohol you may want to indulge in and of course a sense of adventure.

What to Bring

M.V. Flightless is based in the coastal waters of Fiordland beyond the Southern Alps of New Zealand. But in order to start your adventure you’ll have to get there first. The quaint township of Te Anau is where it all starts. If you are on a Join-a-group we’ll have everything organised for you from here.

In general all clients fly into Fiordland by helicopter to maximise their playtime and we'll happily organise that for you as we have a little practise and can secure good rates.

So if you charter the whole boat simply make sure you find your way to the Manapouri Airport the day of your departure and we'll set off on our adventure from there.

From $6000 per 24h period for up to 12 passengers (i.e. $500pp/24h) if you book five nights or more. Shorter adventures are quoted on an individual basis. Please get in touch to chat about how to make YOUR adventure happen.

All prices include crew, catering (exclusive of alcohol), bedding and the use of all recreational equipment onboard.

From $3000 per person. All transfers included. Please get in touch for the next available dates, have a look at the link above, our Facebook page or sign up to our newsletter.

There is no schedule or set itinerary. Every charter is as different as the people on board. So getting in touch with us is where any booking starts.

If you have already been on a trip with us and know exactly what you want, give us a call, drop by for a coffee or write us an email. We’ll check if your desired dates are available.  Otherwise all you need is an idea of when and how long you’d like to be on board for. Simply get in touch and from there we can work on the details of transfers, timings and memories to create along the way.

What time of the year is the best time to come?

Every trip on board is fully catered, so the only things to bring are some clothes, any treats or alcohol you may want to indulge in and of course a sense of adventure. A rule of thumb would be not to exceed 120 kg and try to pack in soft bags rather than hard cases. We’ve also attached a quick list to help you pack.

What should I bring?

What equipment is on board?

Different times of the year have different appeals. For example in October the Scollop season starts; November, being spring, is fantastic for wildlife; April is the Roar and great for hunters and late summer and winter is the best time for diving due to water clarity; whilst our settled winter weather is also a treat for any photography enthusiast. So any time is a good time to come but get in touch with us to discuss what would be best for you.

On board you’ll find two tenders, kayaks with life jackets, a variety of fishing rods, reels and tackle, paddle boards, free diving equipment including 7mm Wettie wetsuits ranging from XXS to XXL, floats and float lines as well as dive cylinders, BCDs, SCUBA fins, masks etc and weight belts. There is the luxury of a water maker, commercial ice maker, soda stream machine, bean bags, washing machine and dryer as well as two dive compressors. We provide safety equipment to shore parties, kayakers and divers. We also carry first aid, and AED and oxygen as well as all other safety equipment required by Maritime New Zealand. And of course there is a hot tub for you to use.

We look forward to having you onboard with us.

We'll talk to you soon.

How do I get to Te Anau or Manapouri?

You can fly directly into Queenstown which is only two hours north. From there most people choose to hire a rental car or van depending on the group size. You also have the option to jump onto any of the bus services that operate between Queenstown and Te Anau such as TrackNet.

Due to our remote location we advise anyone coming along to spend the night prior and following our adventure in either Te Anau or Manapouri as otherwise you might quite literally  'miss the boat'.

Will I get seasick?

There are no guarantees.. BUT chances are reduced significantly if you choose to fly to and from M.V. Flightless. So instead of travelling down the coast to one of the southern more remote Fiords we'll be waiting right there for you and within the internal waters of the Fiords there is always shelter to be found.

Is catering included?

It sure is and the one thing we get to hear is that there is TOO MUCH good food resulting in a kilo or two extra for the return helicopter ride. There are three meals a day, snacks and a never ending fruit bowl as well as a cookie jar just in case.

Another big part of enjoying Fiordland is the privilege to eat what you catch. So if you enjoy seafood you'll be in heaven... and if you don't you'll still be floating on clouds...
